Usually I want summer time and summer flavors to last forever. But these Apple Cider Muffins with Brown Butter Crumble are almost making me excited for cooler mornings and crisp fall air.

Apple Cider Muffins – An Autumn Staple

These apple cider muffins are the perfect way to welcome the heartwarming flavors of the season. These muffins encapsulate everything to love about autumn – the richness of apple cider, the warmth of cinnamon, and the buttery decadence of a crumbly topping.

    Apple Cider Flavor Notes

Apple cider, with its distinctively crisp and slightly tart profile, is like drinking freshly picked apples. Its flavor profile is refreshing and mildly fruity. The natural tartness of the cider provides a balanced and comforting flavor that is the perfect compliment to this buttery muffin.

    Ingredients

Despite being a festive fall treat, these muffins don’t require anything difficult to find in a store. Most of the ingredients are already in your pantry. However, the apple cider might only be available in local stores during the fall.

    Process

The steps to make these Apple Cider Muffins are incredibly straight forward, and like any other muffin recipe. The only new step is the addition of apple cider.

When adding the apple cider, be sure to add in a little at a time. This will prevent your mixture from becoming too watery and flying everywhere when you turn on the electric mixer.

    Brown Butter Crumble

Enhance your Apple Cider Muffins with our simple yet irresistible brown butter crumble. Made from browned butter, brown sugar, and a touch of warm spices, this crumble adds a delicate crunch to every bite. The nutty undertones of browned butter perfectly complement the muffin’s fall flavors.

    2. In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Add in one egg at a time and continue mixing until the color is pale. Slowly mix in the apple cider and vanilla extract. Fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until combined.

    4. Bake for 15 minutes.
    Brown Butter Crumble
    1. While the cupcakes are baking, begin making the crumble. Start by browning the butter in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Add bourbon if using. Remove from heat.
    2. Mix the dry ingredients in a separate bowl then pour the cooled brown butter over. Use your fingers to combine the ingredients into a crumble consistency.
    3. Remove the muffins from the over after 15 minutes. Add as much crumble as desired to each muffin. Then place back in the oven to finish baking for 5 minutes.
